Dr. Atanendu Sekhar Mandal is Professor of Practice at the Bharti School of Telecommunication Technology and Management, IIT Delhi. He earned his B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur, and his M.Tech in Integrated Electronics & Circuits and Ph.D. in Computational Neuro-Vision from IIT Delhi (thesis: "Modeling Short and Long Range Corticocortical Connections in the Visual Cortex and Study of Orientation Selectivity").

He served at CSIR–Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CEERI), Pilani from 1989 until retirement as Chief Scientist, contributing to major MeitY-funded VLSI and perception-engineering programmes — including India's first ASIC (Microwave Oven Controller), Hindi text-to-speech ASIP design, smart-camera embedded processors, and the National Programme on Perception Engineering (NPPE), which he helped initiate with Prof. Santanu Chaudhury. He was a national coordinator of the CSIR AI Mission and played a pioneering role in Chest X-Ray–based COVID testing research published in Scientific Reports (Nature).

After retiring from CSIR-CEERI, he joined the Technology Innovation Hub on Cobotics (IHFC) at IIT Delhi (August 2020) and the Bharti School as Professor of Practice (February 2022). He teaches Mathematical Foundations for Cognitive Sciences at IIT Delhi, has guided Ph.D. and M.Tech. students, and continues research in computational neuro-vision, perception & cognitive engineering, and BCI/BMI.
